The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) is a charity and the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in the UK and Ireland. We are a membership body with over 23,000 members and as a professional organisation we promote, improve and uphold standards of CBT practice, supervision and training.

We are at an exciting point in our journey to embed lived experience at the heart of everything we do. We are now recruiting a Lived Experience Lead to guide, support, coordinate, manage and provide leadership to Lived Experience projects and initiatives. This role will ensure that the perspectives of people with personal experience of mental health issues—and of accessing CBT-based services—continue to shape the work of BABCP and its members.

Some key duties of this role include:

  • Develop and manage the implementation of a Lived Experience Plan.
  • Develop a range of opportunities for Lived Experience Advisors to inform the work of the organisation.
  • Identify inclusive ways of recruiting a diverse group of people with personal experience of mental health issues and accessing CBT and CBT- based interventions that is reflective of the general public, including underserved communities.
  • Manage, support, guide and provide leadership to Lived Experience Advisors to utilise their lived experience effectively and appropriately in different settings, drawing on your own lived experience when appropriate to do so.
  • Develop a range of inclusive ways to secure feedback about, and evaluate the impact of, lived experience at BABCP and the experiences of LEAs within this work, communicating and disseminating this verbally and in writing.
  • Collaborate with staff and members to develop their understanding of, including the value of Lived Experience, providing them with support and guidance as required.

The successful candidate will have their own personal experience of navigating mental health issues and CBT, alongside a clear commitment to using that insight to drive positive change. They will also have a strong track record of empowering, supporting and managing others with similar experiences to contribute and influence meaningfully across a range of settings.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also a must for report writing, creation and delivery of presentations, and facilitation of workshops and meetings. The successful candidate will be confident working both independently and as part of a team, and have strong organisational skills.

This is a remote role but will require occasional onsite visits where required. The role also comes with some great benefits including flexitime, 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro-rata), voluntary healthcare cash plan and a company pension scheme.

BABCP supports and promotes Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds.
